Alma En Venta Press Release

(press photos available in the Gallery)

PRESS RELEASE
For immediate release
March 2, 2005

Upstream Theater, a professional company dedicated to bringing an international perspective to local stages, will present Alma en venta/Soul on Sale, a new play about art and a Mexican-American painter grappling with issues of cultural identity and artistic integrity. As he struggles to prepare for an upcoming show, he is visited by a seductive muse who proves more Mephistopheles than fairy godmother…

Featuring local Equity artists Jerry Vogel, Magan Wiles, and Don McClendon, with music by Farshid Soltanshahi. Conceived and directed by Philip Boehm.

Timed to coincide with Cheech Marin's Chicano art exhibition running through May at the Science Center, Alma en venta/Soul on Sale will play April 21-23 and April 27-30, at 8 PM except for Sundays at 7 PM. Performances will be held in the (covered) Sculpture Area Courtyard of the Lewis Center facility at 721 Kingsland in the U City Loop, just north of Delmar-Harvard School, thanks to the generous cooperation of the College of Art, Washington University. Due to limited seating we encourage early reservations.

This performance is funded in part by the Arts & Education Council, the Fox Associates Foundation, The Trio Foundation of St. Louis, the Whitaker Foundation, and the Hispanic Arts Council.

Tickets are $18 general admission; $12 students/seniors. Group discounts available. For reservations call 314-863-4999 or 314-863-0570 or email us at upstreamtheater@sbcglobal.net. For further information and directions please visit www.upstreamtheater.org.
